Obituary of R.L. Cassels
Funeral services for Mr. R.L. "Val" Cassels, 91, of Farmerville, formerly of Columbia, will be held at 2 PM Saturday, September 3, 2011 from the chapel of Riser Funeral Home in Columbia with Bro. Wayne Whiteside, Bro. Carlin Sanders, and Bro. John Fleming officiating. Visitation will be Friday from 4-8 PM at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Welcome Home Cemetery in Columbia.
R.L. was born January 10, 1920 to Charlie and Cora Holmes Cassels in Rosefield and he went to meet his Lord and Savior at his residence on August 31, 2011. R. L. is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Ann McKee Cassels. Also surviving Mr. Cassels is nephew, Archie H. Wyant, Jr. of Clarksville, Ga, and nieces Janice Wyant Jacobson of West Monroe, and Patricia Wyant Mayes of Bastrop. R. L. was attended faithfully in his last days by niece Helen Patterson and nephew Merle Patterson. He will be missed by a host of nieces and nephews.
R. L. proudly served his country in the army during World War II in Germany. He retired from Riverwood Paper Mill as an operator after 32 years.
Pallbearers for the service will be nephews: Van Patterson, Todd Ainsworth, Stan Wyant, Adam Smith, Ron Wyant, and Mark McKee.
