Obituary of Modean Buckalew
Funeral services for Mrs. Modean Bratton Hennigan Buckalew, age 89, of Columbia will be held 10am Saturday September 3, 2011 from the Columbia chapel of Riser Funeral Home with Rev. Lamar Carpenter and Rev. Jim Goodman officiating. Interment will follow in the Lincecum Cemetery at Georgetown. Visitation will be held on Friday evening from 4pm until 9pm at the funeral home in Columbia. Modean Bratton was born on August 20, 1922 at Kelly, LA to the union of her parents Dave Bratton and Leona Johnson Bratton. She was preceded in death by her parents, by her two husbands, Leon "Bud" Hennigan and Worth Buckalew. She was also preceded in death by her son Otha Lee Hennigan, and three daughters; Belver Hennigan, Ollie Lee Nugent, and Joyce Lafferty, also by her brothers and sisters; Benny Dale Bratton, Ethel Bates James, Cleta Phillips, Jack Bratton, Chester Bratton, Millard Bratton, A. L. Bratton, Artie Goleman, and Elsie Wilson. Survivors include three daughters; Carol Mills Graham and Melba Selma; both of Columbia, and Shirley Word of Kelly; her son-in-law: Horace Lafferty of Grayson; five sisters, Virginia Bratton Cruse of Grayson, Clara Rutledge of Columbia, Mona Ruth Gintz of Pineapple, Catherine Warford of Pigeon Forge, TN, and Ruby Clark of Klamath Falls, OR. She also leaves three brothers, Darrell Bratton of West Monroe, John M. Bratton of Minden, and Virgil Bratton of Pineville. Her legacy will continue with twenty two grand children, thirty four great-grand children, and fifteen great-great grand children, and a host of nieces and nephews. Pallbearers include Phillip Ray Word, Jr; Charlie Lafferty, Derick Lafferty, Michael Hammer, Mitch Bratton, and Sidney Eubanks. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Steve May and Glenn Allen.
