Obituary of Larry Bassett

Funeral services for Larry Don Bassett "Shade", age 59, of Grayson, will be held 2 PM Wednesday, September 7, 2011at the Olla Pentecostal Church in Olla, LA with Bro. Jonathan Crist and Bro. Jeff Masters officiating. Visitation will be Tuesday from 5:00 PM until 9:00 PM at the church. Interment will follow at Little Star Cemetery in Kelly. Services will be under the direction of Riser Funeral Home of Olla. Shade was born February 20, 1952 to E.S. Bassett "Bud" and Carrie Grant in Columbia and he passed from this life on September 4, 2011 at Citizens Medical Center in Columbia. He was mechanic for a construction company. He loved to tinker with motors. He loved people and he loved to play pranks on people. He was preceded in death by his father: E.S. Bassett "Bud"; two brothers: Billy Lynn Bassett and Robert Miley Bassett; grandson: Dyson Steele Bassett; step-father: Johnnie Grant. He is survived by his wife of 33 years: Melanie Bassett of Grayson; son: Gregory Shannon Bassett of Grayson; daughter: Brandy Lanee Lafferty and her husband Sammy of Kelly; mother: Carrie Grant; two brothers: Ricky Bassett and his wife Kelley; Mike Bassett; three sisters: Gayle Dortch and her husband Jimmy; Joyce Price and her husband Jerry; Mary Nell Mercer Thompson and her husband Paul; mother-in-law: Marlene Hatten; three grandchildren: Tyler "Shade" Bassett, Shannah Jaden Lafferty, and Shyra Raeann Lafferty; many nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be Keith Hillestad, Cam Hillestad, Jason Hillestad, Jarrod Crain, Michael Hall, and Jeff McKee. Honorary Pallbearers will be James Parker, Enoch Poole, and Bob Harrison.
