Obituary of Charles Murphy

Funeral services for Charles Jefferson Murphy age 72 of Columbia will be held 2pm Saturday October 29, 2011 from the sanctuary of Bethany Baptist Church at Hebert with Rev. Brian Rankin officiating. Interment with full Military Honors will follow in the Bethany Cemetery, with services under direction of Riser Funeral Home of Columbia. Visitation will be on Friday evening from 4pm until 8pm at the church and again on Saturday from 9am until time of service. Charles Jefferson Murphy was born on October 12, 1934 at Rayville, LA to the union of his parents Charles Jefferson Murphy, Sr. and Virginia May Platt Murphy. He passed from this life on Thursday October 27, 2011 at the Citizens Medical Center in Columbia following an extended illness. Mr. Murphy was a United States Army Veteran, a retired truck driver,with Air Ride,Inc.and a member of the Bethany Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his wife Maude Maxine Meadors and his step daughter Marjorie Lynn Miller. Survivors include; His wife, Myrtis M. Murphy of Columbia; his son, Charles E. Murphy and daughter-in-law Karen of Columbia; his brother, Bertis Murphy and sister-in-law Lavada of Columbia; step son, Andy Meadors and daughter-in-law Joyce of Fayetteville, AR ;step daughter; Cindy Talbot and son-in-law James of Columbia; and step daughter, Sarah Meadors of Columbia; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Members of Bethany Baptist Church will serve as pallbearers.
