Obituary of Roger L. Brown "Brownie"
Funeral services for Roger L. Brown "Brownie" 80, of Hebert, will be held at 2 PM Wednesday, February 1, 2012 at Bethany Baptist Church with Bro. Mack Walker and Bro. Brian Rankin officiating. Interment will follow at the church cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday from 5-9 PM at the church. Services are under the direction of Riser Funeral Home of Columbia.
Roger was born November 1, 1931 to Balfour and Ina Brown in Langdon, North Dakota and he passed from this life on January 29, 2012 at his residence.
He was a retired log truck driver. He received a Bronze Star while serving his country during the Korean War. He was a Mason and he loved to tinker as a handyman. He was preceded in death by his parents; son: Ricky Brown two brothers: Roman Bates and Pat Bates; sister; Bonnie; grandson: Jacob Neal Brown; son-in-law: Ben Lacy.
He is survived by five sons: Gary Brown and his wife Peggy of Moss Bluff, LA; Rodney Brown and his wife Laura of Simpson, LA; Michael Brown and his wife Honda of Oretta, LA; Rod Shipp and his wife Amy of Hebert, LA; Sammy Shipp and his wife Martha of Jackson, MS; two daughters: Sandra Lacy of Kemp, TX; Donna Franklin and her husband Shannon of Hebert, LA; Special Companion: Gwen Mclanahan Brown; three brothers: Ronnie Brown, Lonnie Bates, and Jay Bates; sister: Donna Gillis; 26 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Mike McClanahan, Vernon Sanders, Jared Brown, Ryan Brown, Matthew Brown, and Chad Brown.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Forrest Goins, Johnny Brown, and Winston Burgess.
