Obituary of Shirley Word
Funeral services for Shirley Hennigan Word, age 70, of Kelly will be held 10AM Friday July 27, 2012 from the Columbia chapel of Riser Funeral Home, with the Rev. Jimmy Goodman officiating. Visitation will be on Thursday evening from 5PM until 9PM, July 26, at Riser Funeral Home located at 7131 U S Highway 165. Interment will follow in the Welcome Home Cemetery at Grayson. Shirley Faye Hennigan Word was born on October 2, 1941 at Urania, LA to her parents, Leon "Bud" Hennigan and Modean Bratton Hennigan. She passed from this life on July 24, 2012 at Grayson, LA. Shirley was a loving mother and grandmother, who was called by her family, "The Coupon Queen". She was a retired manager with Casa Ole, and was a previous employee of Red Lobster. Some of her favorite things in life was, cooking for her family, Bingo, and fishing. She was loved by her family, and she showed them the greatest of love in return. She will be missed by all who knew her. Mrs. Word was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Phillip Word, Sr. an infant son; her great-grandson, Noah Ponton; and two sisters, Joyce Lafferty and Ollie Lee Hennigan. Survivors include her son, Phillip Word, Jr. and wife Debbie of Kelly; three daughters, Brenda Harville of Grayson, Sharon Cain and husband Robbie, of Hebert; Melanie Landry and husband Joe of St. Francisville, LA; two sisters, Carol Mills Graham and Melba Selman, both of Hebert. She also leaves her six grandchildren, Christopher Word, Robert Ponton, Michael Hammer, Crystal Mills, Cody Word, and Trey Word, eight step-grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren, Allie Mae, Thomas, Hailey, and Conner.She also leaves her Beloved Miniature Pinchers, Strawberry and Rebel. Pallbearers include Trey Word, Charles Lafferty, Sidney Eubanks, Chief Mitch Bratton, Holden Volentine, and Steven Coates. Honorary pallbearers include, Horace Lafferty and Sheriff Steve May.
