Obituary of Ava Caraway

Funeral services for Mrs. Ava "Vernice" F. Caraway, age 88 of Kelly, LA, will be held at 2 PM Thursday, August 23, 2012 from the chapel of Riser Funeral Home in Columbia, LA with Rev. Elbert Sanson officiating. Interment will follow in the Harris Chapel Cemetery in Olla, LA. Mrs. Caraway was born on July 30, 1924. She passed away on Monday, August 20, 2012 from this life to be with our Lord in Heaven. Mrs. Caraway was the oldest member of Kelly Baptist Church. She worked at Red Cross Drug for a number of years was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star in Columbia from 1956 until her death. She was preceded in death by her father, Joseph Edgar Franklin and mother, Frances Ethel Franklin. Preceded by her husband, Walter W. "Sandy" Caraway and son, Wayland Edgar Caraway. Also, two brothers: R.T. Franklin and Cleveland Franklin. She is survived by her family: son, Louis D. Caraway and wife, Dinah Caraway of Grayson; son, Walter Caraway and wife, Mary Alice Caraway of Columbia; daughter, Joyce Kurtz and husband, Jeff Kurtz of Alexandria, IN and daughter-in-law, Dollie Caraway. She is also survived by her brothers: Melvin Franklin and Sherrill Franklin both of Bridge City, TX; sister, Billie Vincent of Orange, TX and by her loving grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Her pallbearers for these services will be Kelvin Caraway, Stephen Johnson, Sandy Caraway, Charles Caraway, Dylan Caraway and Christopher Caraway. Visitation services will be held at Riser Funeral Home in Columbia, LA on Wednesday, August 22, 2012 from 5 PM to 9 PM.
