Obituary of James Gordon

James Edwin Gordon, age 78 of Columbia passed away on Monday September 10, 2012 at his residence west of Columbia. A memorial service will be held at 10:00am on Saturday September 15 at the Columbia chapel of Riser Funeral Home with Rev. Bruce McGee officiating.Visitation will be held on Saturday from 9am until 10am at the funeral home. James Edwin "Sonny" Gordon was born on August 2, 1934 at Mangham, LA; to the union of Noah Oliver Gordon and Lottie Cleo Sandifer Gordon. He was a retired employee with Ouachita Fertilizer in Monroe. Survivors include his wife of twenty years, Rita Nell Amason Gordon of Columbia; his son, Jim Mark Gordon and wife Hazel, of West Monroe, and their family, consisting of Mr. Gordon's great grandson, Scott Underwood; and Mark's two step children, Paul Caples and wife Jennifer; and Jennifer Underwood; his step son, Reese W. Amison and wife Lynda of West Monroe; two grand daughters, Gracie Malaine Gordon and Sarah Faith Gordon; his brother, Carey Roberts of Orange, TX; five sisters, Robbie Kendall of TX, Dianne Hanks and husband Robert "A J" Penland of Alexandria; Dottie Huff of Oak Grove; Thelma Lou Fountain and husband Gerald of Starks, LA; and Patsy Klipstein and husband Gail of Mauriceville, Texas. He also leaves a host of nieces, nephews, extended family members, and many, many friends.Honorary pallbearers include W.O. Jackson, Ray Amason, Mark Gordon, Marty Shiers,Michael Kirkland, and Mike Venable.
