Obituary of William Richardson
Funeral services for William J. "Edge" Richardson, 89, of Monroe, LA, will be held at 2:00 pm, Tuesday, January 15, 2013 in the chapel of Riser and Son Funeral Home, Columbia, LA with Bro. John Mark Little and Bro. Roger Johnson officiating. Interment will follow at Welcome Home Cemetery in Grayson, LA.
Mr. Richardson passed away Saturday, January 12, 2013 in Monroe, LA after a lengthy illness. He was born in LaSalle parish on October 25, 1923 and grew up in Clarks and Grayson, LA. He was a member of Victory Baptist Church in Monroe and a former member of Grayson Baptist Church where he made his profession of faith. During World War II, he served in the Navy in the Pacific Theater. After the war, he had several jobs before owning and operating his own business for 22 years. During this time, he became State Representative for Caldwell Parish. After his service in the Legislature, he was employed by the LA Dept. of Transportation in the Weights Enforcement Division, eventually retiring as a Police Captain over 5 parishes. "Edge" loved his family very much taking great pride in his children and grandchildren to whom he was affectionately known as "Paw Paw". His love for people was evident in his many friendships and in helping those who had a need. He also enjoyed sports, especially hunting and football. He also had a talent for writing poems about people he knew. Mr. Richardson was preceded in death by his loving wife, Sadie Lutrick Richardson, his parents, Milton and Lou Richardson, and his sisters Ruby Cramer and Thelma Allen. Survivors include his children: Gary Richardson and his wife Dewana, Glen Richardson and his wife Mary, and Brenda Adams and her husband Blake, all of Monroe. Grandchildren: Jennifer Hollis, Johanna Visaggio, Rebecca, Angie, and Julie Richardson, Chris Adams, Melissa Hammett, and Misty Hamric. Great-grandchildren: Brady, Nicholas, Blake, Brooke, Brock, Caroline, and Abby. Two brothers: Elva Richardson and Virgil Richardson. One sister: Daisy Gordy, many nieces and nephews, and a host of friends. Pall bearers will be Chris Adams, Charles Brown, Perry Eppinette, Mike Garvan, Gary Girod, Robert McGee, Ted Sisson, and Lester Skelton. Honorary pall bearers will be Monty Adams, Sr., Benny Ray Cruse, Leslie LaCroix, Jr., Gerald Massey, Charles McGough, Frank McGough, Jim McGough, Monty McGough, Bobby Joe Mercer, and Jerry Meredith. Visitation will be 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm, Monday, Jan. 14, 2013 and Tuesday, from 1 pm until time of service, in the chapel of Riser and Son Funeral Home. The family appreciates the love and kindness shown by family, friends, and caregivers from Azalea Estates, the NE LA War Veterans Home, and Compassus Hospice. Special thanks to his physician, Dr. Charles Morgan and Caregiver, Teresa Highshaw during his final days. Memorials may be given to Victory Baptist Church in Monroe, the Alzheimer's Association, the NE LA War Veterans' Home, or the charity of your choice.
