Obituary of Orval Roberts

Funeral services for Orval Evon Roberts, age 85 of Grayson, LA will be held at 11 AM Friday, February 22, 2013 from the chapel of Riser Funeral Home in Columbia, LA with Bro. Chris Welch officiating. Interment will follow at Roberts Cemetery in Kelly, LA. Visitation will be Thursday, February 21, 2013, evening at Riser Funeral Home in Columbia from 5 PM to 8 PM. Mr. Roberts was born in Hill, LA on May 28, 1927 to the union of John Nelson Roberts and Minnie Newsom Roberts and passed from this life on February 19, 2013 at his residence. He retired after 36 years with the railroad industry beginning with Mopac then Union Pacific. He enjoyed hog hunting and raising Plott hounds and was a member of Springhill Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers: Doyle Roberts, Claude Roberts and Lavern Roberts and sister, Audie Mayes. Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Betty May Roberts of Grayson; four sons: David Roberts and wife, Jennifer of Dover, TN, Ronnie Roberts and wife, Dawn of Cabot, AR, Jerry Roberts and wife, Lori and Kim Roberts and wife, Sharon both of West Monroe; daughter, Susan Johnson and husband, Joe of Ruston; sister, Floyce Childress of Kelly; mother of his children, Betty Girod Roberts; twenty-one grandchildren and twenty-four great-grandchildren with another due shortly. Pallbearers will be James Daniel Roberts, Jerryd "Boo" Roberts, Justin Roberts, Spencer Roberts, Donnie Roberts, Ricky Roberts, Mike Roberts and Tommy Whitten. Honorary pallbearers will be Gary Mayes, Roy Mayes and the members of the Deer Paradise Hunting Club.
