Obituary of James Varnell

Funeral services for Mr. James H. Varnell, age 65 of Columbia, will be held at 10 AM on Sunday, July 24, 2011 from the chapel of Riser Funeral Home in Columbia with Bro. David McKeithen and Bro. Stacy Thomas officiating. Interment will follow at Welcome Home Cemetery in Grasyon. Visitation will be Saturday evening, July 23, 2011 from Columbia Pentecostal Church, 135 Dillon St., Columbia from 5 PM to 9 PM. Mr. Varnell was born in Pineville, LA to the union of Doc and Avice Ainsworth Varnell and passed from this life on Thursday, July 21, 2011 at St. Francis Medical Center in Monroe. He was a member of Columbia Pentecostal Church. He was preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include his wife of 47 years; Vernadie Spangler Varnell, two sons: Keith Varnell and wife, Rose and Donnie Varnell and wife, Jan all of Columbia, four brothers: Wayne Varnell and wife, Betty of Columbia, Sid Varnell and wife, Joyce of Hebert, Billy Varnell and wife, Sherry of Kelly, Wren Gerald Varnell of Clarks, three sisters: Evelyn Varnell of Grayson, Helen Anderson and husband, James of Liddieville and Marie McCoy of Mena, AR, two grandchildren: Trevor Varnell and Ky Varnell, two uncles: Hue Ainsworth and Marvin Ainsworth, aunt; Lily Stone and two special friends: Tommy Young and Wayne Pinkerton. Pallbearers will be Trevor Varnell, Allen Brown, Eric Varnell, Matt Varnell, Mike Anderson, Trey Spangler, Bill Spangler and Joey Freeman. Honorary pallbearers will be Lyod Spangler, Marvin Ainsworth, Wayne Pinkerton, Rocky Cain and Jerry Poole. In lieu of flowers donations in James Varnell's name may be made to the Columbia Pentecostal Church building fund, 135 Dillon St., Columbia, LA 71418.
