Obituary of Marie Burns

Funeral services for Mrs. Marie Richardson Burns age 85 of Grayson will be held 2pm Tuesday July 28,2009 from the Columbia chapel of Riser Funeral Home with Rev. Howard Hudson,and Rev. Harrell Tucker officiating. Wes Burns will deliver the eulogy. Visitation will be Monday July 27, 2009 from 5:00 PM until 9:00 PM at Riser Funeral Home Columbia. Marie Richardson Burns was born to the union of Milton James Richardson and Onnie Laura Douglas Richardson on May 8, 1924 in Caldwell Parish. She passed from this life on Monday July 27, 2009 at the Citizens Medical Center in Columbia. Marie married the love of her life Clifton Burns on June 12, 1942 and they spent sixty seven years together. She started her career with the La. Dept. of Welfare and after six years went on to her real calling which was that of teacher and instructor. She helped guide many students thru their educational careers to become better citizens.She also served as assistant principal at Caldwell Parish Junior High School. She was preceded in death by her parents and by two brothers M.J. Richardson and Jerry Wayne Richardson. Survivors include: Her husband of 67 years: Clifton Burns, Her son: Judge Don C. Burns and wife Mary , her daughter: Anne Burns, grandson: Thomas Wesley Burns , sister: Mrs. Willie Nell Strebeck and husband Howard , and two great grand children: Cody James McElroy and Amber McKenzie Burns, all of Grayson. Serving as pallbearers will be: Wayne Barnett, Cody McElroy, Jason Maxwell, Steve Richardson, John Patterson, Sam Carroll, Tommy Parker, and Lee Michael Estes. In lieu of flowers any planned memorials should be made to the Grayson United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 177, Grayson, La. 71435.
