Obituary of Flora Duke

Funeral services for Mrs. Flora Agnes Jones Duke, age 95 of Columbia, will be held 2 PM Sunday, December 13, 2009 from the sanctuary of First Baptist Church of Columbia with Rev. Eric Harriman and Bro. Shane Duke officiating. Interment will follow at Welcome Home Cemetery in Grayson. Visitation will be Saturday evening at Riser Funeral Home in Columbia from 5 PM to 9 PM. Mrs. Duke was born in Columbia on September 19, 1914 to the union of James Melton and Harriet Estus Head Jones and went to be with the Lord on the morning of Friday, December 11, 2009 at her residence. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Columbia. She was a loving and deeply loved hardworking mother and grandmother. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband; Curtis H. Duke, daughter; Harriet Estus Duke, six brothers and two sisters. Survivors include her three sons: Wilbur Duke of Calhoun, Sam Duke and wife, Betty of Columbia and Kenny Duke and wife, Dianne of Copenhagen, three daughters: Barbara McClanahan and husband, Sonny of Haynesville, Marilyn Warner and husband, Clint of Columbia and Connie Sue Perot and husband, O.V. of West Monroe, fifteen grandchildren, thirty great-grandchildren and sixteen great-great-grandchildren. Pallbearers will be Ricky McClanahan, Wayne Duke, James Duke, Rusty Smith, Donnie Ponder, Paul K. Duke, Collin Ellis and Zach Smith. Honorary pallbearers will the men of the Agape Sunday School class at First Baptist Church of Columbia. In appreciation, our mother is now in heaven with her Creator. She will forever be remembered and we are so grateful for precious memories of our Christian mother. Your every act of kindness has touched our hearts and has been a source of comfort. We appreciate all of you who were so kind as to honor her memory.
