Obituary of Jewel Roberts

Funeral services for Jewel Virginia Harris Roberts, age 90 of Olla, will be held at 2 PM Wednesday, March 3, 2010 from the sanctuary of First Baptist Church of Olla with Rev. Donald Stevens and Rev. Johnnie Phillips officiating. Interment will follow at Olla Cemetery in Olla. Visitation will be Tuesday evening at Riser Funeral Home in Olla from 5 PM to 9 PM then again Wednesday morning from 9 AM until 12 PM. Born in Caldwell Parish on April 1, 1919 and passed from this life on February 28, 2010 with her loved ones at her bedside in Alexandria, LA. She was the youngest of ten siblings, whose parents were Hardy T. and Rosa Gore Harris. She graduated from Kelly High School in 1936 and married Cecil Roberts on June 21, 1941. They resided in Olla most of their sixty years of married life. A devoted daughter, wife and mother, Jewel was also a compassionate lady who loved God and her family. She was a talented seamstress and enjoyed gospel music, quilting, cooking, gardening and helping others. Even though her memories had quietly faded in the past few years, she still recognized her loved ones and undoubtedly felt God's presence. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and an infant daughter; Patricia Rose Roberts. Also, preceding her in death were her three brothers: Roy Harris, Barney Harris and Dozier Harris and six sisters: Beulah Grant, Vera Hutchinson, Moice Volentine, Bernice Gaugh, Golden Crain and Juanita Lovelady. To cherish her memory, she leaves behind two sons: Dale Roberts and wife, Patti of Alvin, TX and Mike Roberts and wife, Judy of Benton, AR, daughter; Brenda Beavers and husband, Thurman of Georgetown, eight grandchildren: Rusty Roberts, Glen Roberts, Mindy Randolph, Wendy Bierman, Corey Roberts, Shawn Evans, Letitia Lincecum and Nicole McLeod and eleven great-grandchildren who lovingly called her MawMaw Honey. Pallbearers will be Rusty Roberts, Glen Roberts, Taylor Beavers, Todd Randolph, Marty Evans, Stephen Lincecum and Shawn McLeod.
