Obituary of Norman Howard

Funeral services for Mr. Norman Robert Howard, age 81 of Columbia, will be held at 2 PM Sunday, May 23, 2010 at Bellview Baptist Church in Hebert with Bro. Rod Shipp officiating. Interment will follow at Start Cemetery in Start. Visitation will be Saturday evening at the Columbia location of Riser Funeral Home from 5 PM to 8 PM. Mr. Howard was born in Franklin Parish to the union of John and Ellen Adams Howard and went to be with the Lord on Thursday, May 20, 2010 at Haven Nursing Center in Columbia. Norman was a veteran of the US Army and owned Riverside Cleaners in Vidalia and Corey Country Store in Corey. He was an avid outdoorsman enjoying hunting, fishing and gardening. But, most of all he loved his family. He was preceded in death by his parents and four brothers: Felton Howard, Louis Howard, Willie Howard and Paul Howard. Survivors include his wife of 60 years; Betty Cannon Howard of Columbia, daughter; Mona Miller and husband, David of Keller, TX, two brothers: Ellzie Howard and wife, Ann of Monroe and Enoch Howard of Olla, sister; Vivian Slocum of Monroe, three grandchildren: Bennett Miller, Stuart Miller and Grace Miller and numerous nieces, nephews and friends. Pallbearers will be men of Bellview Baptist Church of Hebert. In remembrance of Norman Howard, memorials may be made in lieu of flowers to the Alzheimer's Association, 300 Washington St., St. 100K, Monroe, LA 71201.
