Obituary of John Greene

Funeral services for Mr. John Hodges Greene, age 83 of Olla, will be held at 2 PM Sunday, June 27, 2010 from the sanctuary of Olla United Methodist Church with Dr. Curtis Carroll, Jr. officiating. Interment will follow at Colfax Cemetery in Colfax. Visitation will be Saturday evening at Riser Funeral Home in Olla from 5 to 8 PM. Mr. Greene was born on April 8, 1927 in Colfax, LA to the union of Charles J. Greene and Alice McNeely Greene and passed away peacefully on June 25, 2010 at his home in Olla. He was a veteran of WWII and served in the US Navy after graduating from Colfax High School in 1944. He is a graduate of LSU with a degree in Forestry Commission after 33 years of service. He was a devoted member of the Olla United Methodist Church, where he served as chairman of the Administration Board and served on the Benevolent Fund and as an usher. He was an honorary member of the Olla Fire Department and was instrumental in helping to secure the Jaws of Life for the Olla Fire Department. He also served on the Olla Town Council. Mr. Greene had a great love for classical music. He loved the Boy Scouts of America and was an Eagle Scout. Survivors include his loving wife of 54 years; Floy Stough Greene of Olla, sister; Olive Greene Stuart of Colfax, a host of nieces and nephews and friends. Pallbearers will be Randy McCarty, Bull Barnhill, Wayne Bates, Joe Thompson, Dandy Dove and Omer Strong. Honorary pallbearers will be Bernard Miller, Jack Reily, Charlie Wells and the members of the Olla Fire Department.
