Obituary of Nellie Coates

Funeral services for Mrs. Nellie Hyatt Coates age 94 of Columbia will be held 2pm Sunday August 8, 2010 from the sanctuary of Fellowship Baptist Church , with Pastor Brian Rankin officiating. Interment will follow in the Fellowship Cemetery with services under direction of Riser & Son Funeral Home of Columbia. Visitation will be at the church on Saturday from 5:30pm until 9pm . Nellie Hyatt Coates was born on November 18, 1915 here in Caldwell Parish to the union of her parents, the late William Frank Hyatt and Artie A. Yeager Hyatt. She passed from this life on Thursday August 5, 2010 after a sudden illness at her residence. She was preceded in death by her parents, by her husband Horace W. Coates, two sons: Jimmy and Dean Coates, and by four siblings: John, Alvin, Frank, and Joe. She was an active member of the Fellowship Baptist Church and was a retired employee of the Caldwell Parish School System , after having served eighteen years as a lunch room worker. Nellie was a strong willed individual who was able to stay in her own home until the very end of her life. She was a very loving wife, mother, and friend and will be missed dearly by her family, friends, church, and community in which she lived. Survivors include: her children: Son: Leroy Coates of Kelly. Her daughter: Judy Whitlock and husband Louis of West Monroe. Her grandchildren: Pam Chapman, Michelle Joiner, Kenneth Coates, Tina Williams, Steven Coates, Brian Coates, Kevin Mullenix , Melanie McGuire, and Natalie Bannister. She also leaves seventeen great grandchildren. Pallbearers include Randy Barnette , Roy Dale Carr, Mark Joiner, Jerome Carr, Glynn Mullenix , and Brandon Waggoner.
