Obituary of Ocie "Shoat" Grant

Funeral services for Mr. Ocie "Shoat" Otho Grant, age 81 of Kelly, will be held at 1 PM Monday, August 16, 2010 from the chapel of Riser Funeral Home in Columbia with Bro. Paul Ford officiating. Interment will follow at Lowe Cemetery in Kelly. Visitation will be Sunday evening from 3 PM to 9 PM at the funeral home. Mr. Grant was born on September 14, 1928 in Kelly to the union of Ocie Ola Grant and Lovie Sharp Grant and passed from this life on Saturday, August 14, 2010 at his residence. He was a true cattleman who loved buying and selling cattle until he became too ill, but he still enjoyed watching his cattle in the pasture and talking about cattle daily. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers: Grady Grant and Buddy Grant, sister; Louise Herndon, grandson; Scotty Busby and his loving and caring friend of 40 years; Liz Blazier. Survivors include his two sons: Richard Grant and wife, Kay of Holum and Travis Grant of Kelly, three daughters: Patricia Busby and husband, Fred of Clarks, Linda Lowery of Clarks and Dewanna Adams of Elm Grove, two brothers: Arthur Grant and wife, Emmalou of Clearmont, FL and L.W. Grant and wife, Gloria of Columbia, two sisters: Gladys Purcell and husband, John of Winter Park, FL and Evelyn Greenwood of Kelly and seven grandchildren. Pallbearers will be Randy Greenwood, Sam Greenwood, Charles Weaver, Randall George, E.W. Beaubouef and James Naquin. Honorary pallbearers will be Donald Roark, Marshall Tingle, J.T. Thompson and Bob Albritton.
