Obituary of Ethel Dyer
Funeral services for Mrs. Ethel Belle Dyer, age 74 of Columbia, will be held at 10 AM on Saturday, October 30, 2010 from the sanctuary of Woolen Lake Church of God with Rev. Jo Annett Mills officiating and Rev. Glen Lowery delivering the eulogy. Interment will follow in Woolen Lake Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday evening at the church from 5 PM to 8 PM then again Saturday morning from 9 AM until time of service. Mrs. Dyer was born in Herbert, LA to the union of Maloy Samuel and Katie Belle Swett Strickland and went to her Heavenly home on Tuesday, October 26, 2010 at St. Francis Medical Center in Monroe. She was a bookkeeper for the Caldwell Parish public school system before becoming one for the state school. She was a charter member and held the longest membership of Woolen Lake Church of God. She also played the piano for the Hebert Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents, her son; Danny Dyer, two brothers: Maloy "Red" Strickland and Eugene "Peaches" Strickland and five nieces and nephews: Chad Strickland, Terry Strickland, Donna "Sissy" Strickland, Damon Strickland and Jana Strickland. Survivors include her husband of 56 years; William "Sonny" Dyer, daughter; Katie Marie Dyer-Hermes, both of Columbia, five brothers: Huel Elee Strickland and wife, Maxine of West Monroe, Robert Strickland and wife, Elise of Palm Dale, CA, Jacob Strickland and wife, Deannie of Monroe, Jerry Strickland and wife, Patsy and Roy Strickland and wife, Jan both of Columbia, two sisters: Rita Dyer and husband, Bob of Columbia and Patricia Cervelli of Palm Springs, CA, daughter-in-law; Monica Dyer of Livingston, TX, sister-in-law; Mary Strickland of Grayson, seven grandchildren: Summer May, Katey Nelson and husband, Josh, Cara Howard and husband, Keith, Ryan Dyer, Daniel Dyer, Triston Hermes and Riley Hermes, ten great-grandchildren: Sean Denison, Shelby Shepherd, Seth Denison, Addie Nelson, Nicole Nelson, Kortlyn Amos, McKayden Nelson, Swayzie Nelson, Kyndall Howard and Kaegan Howard, one great-great-grandchild; Kylee Denison and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. Pallbearers will be Keith Howard, Maloy Strickland, Chris Strickland, Terry Lowery, Roy Lowery and Jamie Lowery. Honorary pallbearers will be Gary Mott, Scott Meredith, Bo Weed and Wade Dyer. Any planned memorials may be made in Mrs. Dyer's name to Woolen Lake Church of God, 1992 HWY 561, Columbia, LA 71418.
