Obituary of Robert Shipp

Funeral services for Mr. Robert Benjamin "Buster" Shipp, age 84 of Columbia, will be held at 10 AM Saturday, December 18, 2010 from the sanctuary of Bethany Baptist Church in Hebert with Rod Shipp ministering, Jo Mills delivering the eulogy and The Mills Family singing. Interment will follow at Bethany Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday evening at Bethany Baptist Church from 5 PM to 9 PM. Mr. Shipp was born in Richland Parish on March 15, 1926 to the union of Henry F. and Leila Hudson Shipp and passed from this life on Thursday, December 16, 2010 at his residence. Buster retired from the US Navy where he served during WWII and the Korean War. After the Navy he became a tugboat captain working on the Mississippi River. He was a Mason and a member of the Military Organization for Retired Military and Bethany Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers. Survivors include his wife; Gwen Harrison Shipp of Columbia, children: Eugene and Judy Temple of Grayson, Ricky and Jo Mills, Randy and Danna Mills, Terry and Linda Lowery, David Mills and Sherri Mills all of Hebert, mother-in-law; Jessie Harrison of Columbia, sister; Edna Brister of Baton Rouge, thirteen grandchildren and twenty-two great-grandchildren. Pallbearers will be Roger Shipp, Marty Harvey, Dennis Mullenix, Mike Shipp, Jodi Wheeler and Jimbo Emmons.
