Obituary of Margenia Marie Strickland Weed

Funeral services for Margenia Marie Weed, 83 of Hebert will be held 2:00 PM Friday January 6, 2017 from the sanctuary of Bethany Baptist Church with Rev. Brian Rankin officiating. Interment will follow in the Hebert Cemetery under direction of Riser Funeral Home in Columbia. Visitation will be on Thursday January 5, 2017 at the church from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM. Margenia Marie Strickland Weed was born on February 15, 1933 at Hebert, LA to the union of her parents James Strickland and Ivess Davis Strickland, and she passed from this life on Tuesday January 3, 2017 following an extended illness. She was preceded in death by her parents, and by her husband Virgil O. Weed. Mrs. Weed was a member of the Welcome Home Baptist Church.Facing hard physical labor was never a problem for Margenia. Plowing the fields with a team of horses, building a fence, or her housework. She could do it all. Her pride and joy was her vegetable and flower gardens. She retired from Richland Parish School System when she was diagnosed with cancer. She drove a school bus for many years. Left to cherish her memory are her daughter: Charlotte Carson and husband Donnie of Columbia; her son; Donald Weed and wife Audrey of Rayville; two brothers: Hollis Strickland and wife Donna of West Monroe, Kenneth Strickland and wife Elaine of West Monroe; her grandchildren: Brad Carson and Cassie, Kacey Carson, Amber Weed, and Josh Weed; her great grandchildren: Kirsten Carson, Bailey Carson, Katie Lynn Masters, Kadence Bradley, Raeann Berry, and Tyler Berry; and one great- great- grand-child: Emerson “Emmy” Bendily. Serving as pallbearers will be Brad Carson, Joel Strickland, Randy Weed, Todd Weed, Brian weed, and Tommy Cruse. Honorary pallbearers will be Dub Weed, Albert “Red” Scott, Ralph Wallace and Neal McCowin. Online registry/condolences: riserfuneralhomes.com
