Obituary of James Thomas Coker

Graveside services for James Thomas Coker, age 90, of Saline, will be held at 2:00 PM, Saturday, February 18, 2017 at Squires Cemetery in Summerville with Bro. David Walsworth and Bro. Roy Lowery officiating. Visitation will be Saturday from 9:00 AM until 12:00 PM at Riser Funeral Home in Columbia. James was born November 12, 1926 to the union of William and Irene Montpelier Coker in Harrisonburg and he passed from this life on February 15, 2017 at Jackson Parish Hospital in Jonesboro after a lengthy stay. Mr. Coker served in the U.S. Navy as a medic in WWII. He received the Purple Heart in the line of duty to his country. He worked in the logging woods for many years. He was an avid fisherman and loved to listen and go to blue grass music festivals. He was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years: Barbara Jean Corley Coker; oldest son: Thomas Ray Coker; his parents. He is survived by eleven children: Nancy Fields and her husband Lester of Columbia; Bobby Coker of Jonesboro; Patricia Coker of Saline; Dorothy Conley and her husband Billy of Ashland; William Coker and his wife Diane of Jonesboro, Jimmy Coker of Castor; Jerry Coker and his wife Kimberly of Winnfield; Sharon Fowler and her husband Rickey of Clarks; Janet Adkins and her husband Lee of Columbia; James “Bo” Coker of South Carolina; a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great- grandchildren. Pallbearers will be Michael Kennedy, Thomas Kennedy, Rick Morehead, Dale Coker, Rickey Fowler, and Trevor Stewart. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Riser Funeral Home, P.O.
