Obituary of Myrtle Bamburg Garner
Funeral services for Myrtle Bamburg Garner, age 84 of West Monroe, will be held at 10 AM Thursday, March 30, 2017 from the chapel of Riser Funeral Home, Columbia with Rev. James Gardner officiating and James Garner delivering the eulogy. Interment will follow at Hebert Cemetery, Columbia.
Visitation will be Wednesday, March 29, 2017 at Riser Funeral Home, Columbia from 5 PM to 9 PM.
Mrs. Garner was born on June 16, 1932 in Columbia, LA to the union of her parents, Thomas and Florence Ellis Bamburg and passed from this life on Monday, March 27, 2017 at Avalon Place in Monroe, LA.
Myrtle was a member of McClendon Baptist Church where she was active until her health began to fail. She ministered weekly to those in the hospital with gift baskets and served in the adult choir for a period. Myrtle was a career woman who worked hard her entire life. She held various jobs throughout her career until retiring from Bancroft. When she was home due to having a child or in between jobs she would take care of other people's children. Myrtle loved her children and grandchildren and watched every sporting event that they participated.
She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, J.V. Garner; grandson, Marcus Lee Garner; two brothers: Robert Bamburg and Ivy Bamburg and three sisters: Katie Bamburg Gaugh, Frances Bamburg Smith and Beatrice Bamburg Shipp.
Those left to cherish her memory are her son, James Garner, Jr., wife, Ceseley of Frisco, TX; two daughters: Lisa Parent and husband, Russ of Monroe and Linda Monceaux of Tomball, TX; brother, Tommy Bamburg of Columbia; two sisters: Edna Shipp of Columbia and Helen Foster husband, Buddy of West Monroe; grandchildren: Summer Garner Copeland, Ryan Monceaux, Jamie Croswell, Matt Garner, Grant Garner, Gabrielle Parent and Vaughn Parent and great-grandson, Hoss Garner.
Pallbearers will be Matt Garner, Grant Garner, Ryan Monceaux, Vaughn Parent, Russ Parent and Kelly Foster.
