Obituary of J.J. "Skipper" Carter
Funeral services for J.J. “Skipper” Carter, age 72, of Clarks, will be held at 2:00 PM, Thursday, May 18, 2017 from the chapel of Riser Funeral Home in Columbia with Bro. C.R. Martin officiating. Interment will follow at Welcome Cemetery in Grayson. Visitation will be Wednesday from 5:00 PM until 9:00 PM at the funeral home.
Skipper was born December 16, 1944 to the union of James and Lucille Carter and he passed from this life on May 15, 2017 at LaSalle General Hospital in Jena.
Skipper served his country in the Army for 4 years. He was a millwright / head mechanic at Louisiana Pacific for 30 years. After retiring from LP, he worked for the Caldwell Parish School system. For many years he served as an Alderman for the town of Clarks. He was an officer for the American Legion. He was preceded in death by his wife: Linda Dartlone Carter; his parents; James and Lucille Carter; and brother: Norris Carter.
He is survived by his son: Jeremy Carter and his wife Mandy of Clarks; daughter: Leslie Carter Strahan and her husband Ron of Brusly, LA; brother: James Lee Carter and his wife Olavie of Hendersonville, Tennessee; sister: Bettie Carter Stanislao and her husband Joe of Bozeman, Montana; sister-in-law: Johnnie Carter; grandchildren: Jayna and Sophia Carter, Kayne, Kaylie, and Breyanna Strahan; many nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Ricky Ratcliff, Shelby Cruse, Wyman Winter, Mike Nappier, Luther Ray Stapleton, Jarrod Flores, Jason Humphries, and Wayne Franklin.
