Obituary of James Herman Simons
Funeral services for James Herman Simons age 82 of Grayson will be held 10:00 AM Friday July 7, 2017 from the Columbia chapel of Riser Funeral Home with Bro. Tommy Prince officiating. Interment will follow in the Holum Cemetery at Grayson. Visitation will be on Thursday July 6, 2017 at the funeral home from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM.James Herman Simons was born on April 2, 1935 at Chatham, LA to the union of his parents Henry Monroe and Nola Simons and he passed from this life on July 4, 2017 at the Haven Nursing Center in Columbia following an extended illness.
James served in the United States Air Force during the period of the Korean Conflict. He was a member of the Holum Baptist Church and loved attending church. In his early years he was an avid sportsman and loved hunting and fishing. He was employed and retired with BFI Waste Services having been a mechanic and a truck driver. He loved “Pickin and Grinnin” and loved wood working. He was preceded in death by his parents, his granddaughter: Cassie Lane Simons and by his in-laws: Marshall and Bethra Braddock; and his brother-in-law: Maurice Braddock.
Left to cherish a lifetime of memories are his beloved wife: Elaine Braddock Simons of Grayson; two sons: Carl Simons and his wife Becky of Kelly and Kim Simons and his wife Grace of Grayson; his daughters: Kristy Nelson and husband Shane of Grayson and Sonja Simons of Winnfield; two sisters: Bessie Irby of Bastrop and Ellen Robertson of Alexandria; and his ten grandchildren: Adam Simons, Jeremy Simons, Jeffery Simons, Amber Floyd, Dayla Simons, Karrisa Simons, Heath and Haley McAnally and Dustin Nelson and Katelynn Nelson.
Serving as pallbearers will be Heath McAnally, Dustin Nelson, Adam Simons, Ray Braddock, Berl Braddock and Lawrence Ray Braddock. Honorary pallbearers include Jeffery Simons and Matt Floyd.
