Van served in the Air Force from 1955 – 1961 at Oxnard A. F. B. in California and then at Ent A. F. B. in Colorado Springs, Colorado. He resided in California for ten years then moved to Moore, Oklahoma and operated a service station for twenty years. At that time he and his wife, Betty moved back to the old home place in Hebert, Louisiana. Van was a Godly man. God and his family were the most important things in his life, along with fishing. He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Dora Fife Weed and brother, Willie E. Fife.
He is survived by his wife of almost 62 years, Betty Stephens Fife; a sister, Goldie Fife Poole and husband, Billy Jo; two sons: Randy Fife and wife, Debbie of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and Barry Fife and Libby of Hebert, Louisiana; six grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and a host of other family and friends. He was generous to all and will be missed by all who were privileged to have known him.
