Obituary of Joseph Felix Bennett
Funeral services for Joe F. Bennett age 83 of Grayson will be held 2:00 PM Friday December 1, 2017 from the sanctuary of Outreach Baptist Church, Highway 4 West, Columbia. Visitation will be on Thursday November 30, 2017 at the Outreach Baptist Church from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM. Interment will follow in the Welcome Home Cemetery at Grayson under direction of Riser Funeral home of Columbia.
Joseph Felix Bennett was born on December 6, 1933 at the Burroughs Community in Caldwell Parish to the union of his beloved parents Felix Bruce Bennett and Laura Elizabeth Finley Bennett. He passed from this life to life anew on Tuesday November 28, 2017 at his residence following an extended illness.Known by everyone as Joe, he served in the United States Navy during the Korean Conflict and was stationed on the USS Colahan and served during active combat. Joe was employed as a Correctional Officer with Angola State Penetentiary and then became farm Manager with St. Gabriel Prision and Louisiana State University. Joe was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and friend. He leaves behind an enormous legacy through his family. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother: Andy J. Bennett, and his beloved sisters Louise Bennett Mills and Mildred Lively.Left to cherish a lifetime of memories: his wife of sixty four years Betty Wilson Bennett of Grayson; his son: Greg Bennett and wife Linda Rider Bennett of Grayson; two daughters: Connie Edmonston and husband Gary of St. Gabriel and Glenda Bennett of Columbia; his brothers: Ronald Bennett and Robert Bennett and wife Laverne all of Columbia; his sister: Maurine Brownell of Fortuna, California and his sister in law: Lucille Bennett also of Fortuna; ten grandchildren: Jason Anderson, Melissa Anderson Meredith, David Anderson, Mandy Naron,Amy Fabre, Gary Edmonston Jr. , Nikki Bennett, Tracy Leblanc, Keely Kearns, Shelly Bennett, Josh Bennett, Kris Hatten, Jeffrey Hatten and Johnny Hatten; and thirty five great-grandchildren.
Serving as pallbearers will be Jason Anderson, David Anderson, Josh Bennett, Reed Anderson, Mike Carroll, and Josh Leblanc. Honorary pallbearers include Scott Meredith, David Earl Varnell, Taryn Varnell, Leroy Broom, Jimmy Ray Busby, Curtis Wilson, Jay Finley, Buddy Jamerson, and Gwen Engleman.
