Obituary of Ronald Edward Nelson, Sr.

Funeral services for Ronald Edward Nelson, Sr., age 71 of Columbia, Louisiana will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday, December 30, 2017 from the chapel of Riser Funeral Home, Columbia, LA. Interment will follow at Woolen Lake Cemetery, Hebert, LA. The family will receive visitors at the funeral home on Friday, December 29, 2017 from 5 PM until 8 PM.

Ron was born September 21, 1946 in Monroe, LA and passed away December 27, 2017 at Alexandria, LA. He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. Ron was a welder by trade and loved his work. He also enjoyed spending time fishing. Ron was dearly loved by his family and will be missed by all who knew him. He was preceded in death by his father, Arthur Willis Nelson; son, Jason Nelson; brothers, Butch Nelson and Art Nelson, Sr.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Velma Johns Nelson; mother, Lydia Nelson Boyd; son, Ronald Edward Nelson, Jr.; daughter, Marguarite Nelson; step-son, Jeffrey Shavers; step-daughter, Carmen Cox; sister, Diane Graves and husband, John; brother, Mike Nelson and wife, Liz; sister-in-law, Virginia Nelson; grandson, Ronald Edward Nelson III; step-grandchildren: Cailey Cox, Colton Cox, Katrina Shavers and Justin Shavers and numerous nieces and nephews
