Obituary of Laura Lucelle Josie Richmond

Funeral services for Laura Lucelle Richmond, age 87 of Columbia will be held 10:00 AM Thursday, February 22, 2018 from the sanctuary of Fellowship Baptist Church with Bro. Craig Franklin officiating. Bro Steven Hatten will deliver the eulogy. Burial will follow in the Fellowship Cemetery under direction of Riser & Son Funeral Home of Columbia. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Wednesday, Feb. 21, 2018 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM and at the church on Thursday from 9:00 AM until time of service.

Laura Lucelle Richmond, affectionately known by everyone as Josie was born on July 1,1930 at Columbia, Louisiana to the union of Joe Cephus Holmes and Dorles Eula Finley Holmes and she passed from this life, to life anew on February 20, 2018 at the Haven Nursing Center in Columbia following an extended illness. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Rev. Jim Richmond, her son, Jimmy Richmond, her granddaughter, Beverly Richmond and her great-granddaughters, Lauren Franklin and Kassie Franklin; her siblings: Bennie Joe Holmes, Mary Berta Holmes and Henrietta Richmond. She was an active and faithful member of the Fellowship Baptist Church for many years but recently became a member of the Banks Springs Baptist Church in Columbia. Ms. Josie was known for her Christ-like love which she extended to everyone around her. She had an humble spirit and would help anyone in any way. To know her was to love her. She always supported her husband in his ministry and always prayed for her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and called them each by name as she prayed to her Lord. She was an exceptional human being and will be sorely missed by family and friends alike.

Left to cherish a lifetime of memories are her son, James Richmond and wife, Barbara of Kiefer, Oklahoma; her daughters, Sharon Curtis and husband, Glynn of Grayson, Janice Richmond of Monroe and Kay Stinnett and husband, Walter of Terrell, Texas; her daughter-in-law, Rhonda Richmond of Columbia; her sisters: Betty Byrd of Houma, LA and Aileen Hancock of Houston, Texas; and a host of  grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Serving as pallbearers will be Noah Hatten, Brian Hatten, Tanner Franklin, Matthew Justus, Dakota Hatten and Jesse Richmond. Honorary pallbearers include C.H. Boyd, Steve May and Don Mayo.

In lieu of flowers, any planned memorials may be made to St. Jude's Childrens Research Hospital or the American Cancer Society.
