Obituary of Richard E Carter

Funeral services for Richard Edwin Carter age 93 of Grayson will be held 11:00 AM Wednesday April 25, 2018 from the Columbia chapel of Riser Funeral Home with Bro. Shane Duke officiating. Interment will follow in the Old Union Cemetery at Grayson. Visitation will be on Tuesday April 24, 2018 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM.

Richard Edwin Carter was born on January 19, 1925 at New Orleans, LA to the union of James Thomas Carter and Alma Estelle Hackler Carter, and passed from this life on Saturday April 21, 2018 at the Citizens Medical Center in Columbia.

Mr. Carter attended Northeast LA. Junior College in Monroe before relocating to Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge receiving his degree in agriculture. He graduated in 1950. He served in the United States Navy during World War II and served in the Atlantic Front on the USS Texas and the USS Nevada. 

He is preceded in death by his parents, his brothers and sisters: James Lamar Carter, Harriet Frances Carter Foster, Vivian Loraine Carter Stamper, Miriam Rose Kepischke, and his identical mirror twin brother Jesse Louis Carter.

Left to cherish a lifetime of memories are his wife Mary Viva Carter of Grayson, They were married on August 31, 1949; his daughters: Alma Louise Carter Gros of Grayson and Celeste Carter Shaeffer of Natchitoches; his grandchildren: Robert B. Greer, III; Murray Joseph Gros, III; Joshua Talon Shaeffer, Vera Brooks Day; Sheila Brooks Sepulvado, Robert Otis Hutson, III, Jeneen Shaeffer Salley, and Richard Jeffrey Shaeffer; his special niece: Madelon Carter Jordan and numerous great grand children and numerous nieces and nephews.

The Carter Family would like to extend a deeply heartfelt thank you to Dr. Pankaj Shroff, Dr. Randy Head, the Haven Nursing Home staff, and his special caregiver, friend and neighbor, Jessica Staggs.
