Loleta Ann Kees May was born July 2, 1943 in Winnfield, Louisiana to the union of her parents, O'Neal Kirkland Kees and Dorothy Cornelia Riggs Kees and she passed from this life on June 7, 2018 at Ochsner's Medical Center in New Orleans after a brief illness. Leta was raised in Georgetown and was Valedictorian of the 1961 graduating class of Georgetown High School. She attended and graduated from LSU with a degree in Home Economics. After graduation Leta moved to Texas to take a job with the Texas Agricultural Extension Service. While she always declared she would never be a school teacher, like her mother and grandmother, it seemed life had a different plan. While home for a visit a series of events led her to take a position as a second grade teacher there in Georgetown. In 1975 she accepted a position at Grayson Elementary as a kindergarten teacher. While teaching she went  back to college and took classes from LA Tech, Northwestern, LA College and NLU, now ULM. She earned her Master's Degree in 1982 and a Plus 30 in 1984 from ULM. In 1984 she became the principal of Grayson Elementary and maintained that position until 1997. Before retiring in 2005 she had worked at Caldwell Parish School Board as School Nutrition Supervisor, Elementary Supervisor and Adult Education Supervisor. She educated young people for 34 years and never regretted a moment. Leta was active in numerous educational organizations throughout her career and after her retirement. She was a charter member of Gamma Delta Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma International. When Leta moved to Grayson in 1975 she moved her letter of membership from the Georgetown Baptist Church to Grayson Baptist Church. She was an active member through the years having taught Sunday School and helped in many different capacities. She had friends far and wide and was loved by so many. She will be greatly missed. Leta was preceded in death by her parents and her brother-in-law, James Hardy Smith.

Left to cherish her memory are her sisters: Sue Tant (Don) and Sandra Smith; her brother, Kirk Kees (Molly); step-children: Melton May and Shawn Skyles; nieces and nephews: Andrew Tant, Luke Tant, Shani Green, Christie Frazier, Treigh Kees, Kevin Kees and Casey Kees; 5 great-nieces and a special young man she loved like a son, Anuj Shroff.

Serving as pallbearers will be Melton May, Andrew Tant, Luke Tant, Lyn Meredith, Scott Green and Scott Frazier. Honorary pallbearers will be Jerry Meredith, Tommy Parker and Billy Joe May.
