Obituary of Tilda Duke Calhoun

Funeral services for Mrs. Tilda Lena Duke Calhoun, age 81 of Columbia will be held 10:00 AM Saturday, July 14, 2018 from the Columbia chapel of Riser & Son Funeral Home with Rev. Shane Duke and Rev. Warren Maxwell officiating. Bro. Rickey Baker will deliver message through song. Interment will follow in the Welcome Home Cemetery at Grayson. Visitation will be on Friday, July 13, 2018 at the funeral home from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM.

Tilda Lena Duke Calhoun was born on August 31, 1936 to her parents, Clifford Carl Duke and Ollie Gibson Duke and passed through the heavenly gates on Tuesday, July 10, 2018. Tilda is now enjoying heaven with her eldest daughter, Rebecca (Beckie) Dehl, both of her parents, her grandmother who helped raise her, Lena Lively Duke, her brothers: Manuel Woodruff, Ray Woodruff, Hobart Woodruff, and Jerry K. Duke; her sisters: Ella Mae Thornhill, Jewell Young, Katie Hebert, Elaine Broussard, Melba Jean Nichols and her step-grandson: Michael Woods.

She is survived by her husband of sixty-five years, Waymond Calhoun, Sr.; sons: Waymond (Bubba) Calhoun, Jr., and Carl Calhoun, both of Columbia and her daughter, Sonya Frymyer (Troy) of Ocoee, Florida; son-in-law, Clayton Dehl of Monroe; nine grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren; sisters: Ollie Faye Turner and Judy Chenevert and her brother, Binus Duke. Her family was her heart and she loved each one very much. Tilda was a kind and very good nurse for most of her working years. She cherished her Lord Jesus Christ and shared her testimony to anyone that would listen. She was a strong-willed woman with a big heart. She loved God and her country.

Serving as pallbearers will be Collin Dehl, Jeremiah Hurst, John Serrano, Andon Calhoun, Heath Calhoun, and J.R. Holladay. Honorary pallbearers include Troy Frymyer, Clayton Dehl, Heath Calhoun, Sr. and Aron McGuffee.

In lieu of flowers any planned memorials may be made to the Columbia Heights Baptist Church Building Fund.
