Obituary of Betty Jane Walters

Betty Jane Walters, 87, of Olla, Louisiana, passed from this life on August 11, 2018, at Hardtner Medical Center in Urania, Louisiana.

        She was born on Sunday, October 26, 1930, to the union of her parents, Edgar H. Kirkham and Minnie L. Ratcliff Kirkham.

        As a direct descendent of a charter member, she was a lifetime and faithful member of Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church.  She was also a First Grade Teacher in the LaSalle Parish School System.  In her efforts to be the best teacher she could be, she acquired a Bachelor’s, Master’s Degree, and +30 hours in Education, and retired with over 30 years of service teaching children to read and write.  She was a dedicated wife, and a supportive, attentive, and loving mother to her four children.

        Visitation will be held at Riser & Son Funeral Home in Olla, Louisiana, 5 to 8 p.m., Monday, August 13, 2018.  Funeral Services will be at Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church at 10 a.m., Tuesday, August 14, 2018, with Reverend Gary Norris and Reverend Joel Johnson officiating.  Interment will follow at Harris Chapel Cemetery, Olla, Louisiana, under the direction of Riser & Son Funeral Home. 

        Mrs. Walters is preceded in death by her parents, Edgar and Minnie Kirkham, and her sister, Enola K. Sanders.

        She is survived by her husband of over 70 years, Charles J. Walters, and her children, Kirk Walters and his wife Charlene; Terry Mann, and her husband, Ed; David Walters and his wife, Cheryl; and Reed Walters, and his wife, Marsheela; her Grandchildren, Elaine Hadded and her husband, Micah; Chuck Walters; Mark Mann and his wife, Caila; Jarrod Mann and his wife, Brooke; Ashley Mann; Todd Box and his wife, Stephanie; Josh Box; Brett Walters; Ronn Walters and his wife, Sara; her Great-Grandchildren, Natalie Haddad, Julian Haddad, Abram Mann, Ellis Mann, Austin Box, Jaden Box, Caleb Box, Noah Box, Dylan Box, Jackson Walters, and Joseph Walters; her Niece, Sherrie Coolman and husband, Eddie, and their children, Ray Lynn and Michael, and Nephews, Ricky Sanders and his wife, Helen; and Roger Sanders.  She is also survived by her Brother-In-Law, Jim Walters and his wife, Freda.

        Pallbearers will be Chuck Walters, Brett Walters, Ronn Walters, Mark Mann, Jarrod Mann, and Ray Lynn Coolman.

Honorary Pallbearers will be Elaine Haddad, Micah Haddad, Sherrie Coolman, Eddie Coolman, and Michael Coolman.
