Obituary of Iley Harris Evans, Jr.

Funeral services for Iley Harris Evans, Jr., of Columbia will be held at 11 AM, Saturday, September 1, 2018 at Grayson Baptist Church, Grayson, LA with Bro. Rick Crandall officiating. Interment will follow at Columbia Hill Cemetery under the direction of Riser Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 5 PM until 8 PM, Friday, August 31, 2018 at the church.

 

Iley Harris Evans, Jr. was born June 18, 1947 in Olla, LA and passed from this life at his home in Columbia on August 29, 2018 surrounded by his loving family. Iley leaves a legacy of a life well-lived. He served in the army during the Vietnam War and attended law school at Louisiana State University. He served as the Assistant District Attorney for the 37th Judicial District for fifteen years before being elected as District Attorney. He served in this position for twelve years. Iley was a member of the Louisiana Bar Association and the Louisiana District Attorney Association as well as numerous other clubs and organizations throughout the years. He loved the people of Caldwell Parish and felt it an honor to represent and serve them.  Iley was a member of Grayson Baptist Church.  He was preceded in death by his father, Iley Harris Evans, Sr.; his mother, Mary Cornwell Rosselle; step-father, Harold Rosselle; brother, Iley "Sonny" Evans; sisters: Linda Moore, Barbara Morgan and Maurine Manning and a special granddaughter, Gracie Crockett.

 

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 47 years, Sherri Doffitt Evans; daughters: Brandi Wallace (Dan) and Shae Cheatham (Justin); grandchildren: Logan Wallace, Colter Wallace, Hayes Nethery and Iley Harper Cheatham; brothers: Mickey Evans (Sue), Randy Jack Evans (Karen), Johnny Evans (Brenda) and Billy Joe Evans (Charlene); sisters: Tammy Dannehl (Mark), Janice Walker, Cherry Evans and Ginger May (Charles) and a host of nieces and nephews.

 

Serving as pallbearers will be Gunny Hendrix, Dale Hendrix, Brian Frazier, Trey Frazier, Ashly Thomas, Todd Crockett, Duane Wilks and Larry Humphries. Honorary pallbearers are Greg Wilbanks, Scott Meredith, Eugene Dunn, Reggie McDaniel, Don Burns and Eric Williams.

 

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Grayson Baptist Church Youth Ministry, PO Box 359 Grayson, LA 71435.
