Obituary of Dorothy Kontney Cody

Funeral services for Dorothy Kontney Cody, age 92 of Alexandria, LA will be held at 11 AM Monday, September 3, 2018 at the chapel of Riser Funeral Home in Columbia, LA with Rev. Ashley McGuire officiating. Burial will follow at Old Bethel Cemetery, Clarks, LA. Visitation will be held on Monday beginning at 10 AM until service time at the funeral home.

Dorothy Dawn Kontney Cody was born March 14, 1926 in Monroe, LA and died August 28, 2018 at her home in Alexandria. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Alexandria. She will be greatly missed by her family. She was preceded in death by her husband, Melvin O. Cody, Sr. and her parents, Joseph Benard and Anna Bryant Kontney.

Left to cherish her memory are her sons: Melvin O. Cody, Jr. (Caren) and Joe Cody (Stephanie); daughters: Debra Hughes (Ronnie), Brenda Caskey (Anthony) and Melva Slaughter (Billy); her beloved grandchildren: Christopher Hughes (Kim), Stacy Hughes, Quentin Caskey, Amanda Caskey, Renee Caskey (Eric), Layla Caskey, Melissa Cody, Melvin Cody III (Brittney), JoAnn Cody, Grace Cody and D. J. Cody; 14 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Bobby Cody Hawthorne; nephews: Andy Hawthorne, Doug Caldwell (Emily), Scott Caldwell (Judy) and Thomas Parker (Trina); nieces: Charla Hawthorne and Gay Gaskin (Gary) and special friend, Jane Ann Norman.

Serving as pallbearers will be Christopher Hughes, Melvin Cody III, Andy Hawthorne, Thomas Parker, David Cormier, Jayden Cody, DJ Cody and Joshua Jeffcoat. Honorary pallbearers are Quentin Caskey and Darron Reeves.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the First United Methodist Church of Alexandria, 2727 Jackson Street, Alexandria, LA 71301.
