Obituary of Alton N. Oser, Sr.

Funeral services for Alton N. Oser, Sr. age 84  of Columbia will be held 2:00 PM Wednesday December 5, 2018 from the sanctuary of the Columbia Church of Christ with Minister Jonathan Long officiating. Visitation will be on Wednesday December 5, 2018 from 10:00 AM until time of service at the church. Interment will follow in the  Welcome Home Cemetery at Grayson with full military honors. Services are under direction of Riser & Son Funeral Home of Columbia.
 
Alton Nicklos Oser, Sr. was born on December 23, 1933 at Winnsboro, LA   to the union of his parents Henry Oser and Mary  Netherland Oser and passed from this life on Monday December 3, 2018 at the St. Francis Medical Center in Monroe following an extended illness. He was a devoted Christian and a faithful member of the Columbia Church of Christ.

Alton grew up in Caldwell Parish and lived here for most of his life, excluding his time in the military.  He proudly served in the United States Army and retired after twenty years of service. After his military service and his return to Caldwell Parish, he worked for Howard Brothers and Western Auto in Columbia.  Alton also served several local congregations in the preaching ministry.  

He was preceded in death by his parents, by his first wife  Effie Mae Keiffer Oser, his son: Darrell Oser, his step daughter Lena Rollins; his step son: Daniel Cox and by three brothers: Toby Oser, Alvin “Bud” Oser, and J.C. Oser; by three sisters: Eunice Clark, Julie Taylor, and Dortha Carraway.
 
Left to cherish a lifetime of memories are: his wife Mildred Oser; his children: Arlan Oser,  Nyla Faye Hill, and  Alton N. Oser, Jr.; step children: Floyd Cox, Tina Marie Sosa, Evelyn Rachal and Vercie McWilliams; his sisters: Janice Sikes and Irene Anderson; several nieces and nephews, and more than thirty three grandchildren and great grandchildren combined.

Among  Alton's numerous notebooks, he wrote these words in reference to his family: "These children and grandchildren are our MOST VALUABLE assets."
