Obituary of Carolyn Seay Lofton Coon
Funeral services for Carolyn Seay Coon age 80 of Columbia will be held 10:00 AM Wednesday January 16, 2019 from the Columbia chapel of Riser & Son Funeral Home with Rev. W. C. “Dub” Hatten officiating. Interment will follow in the Welcome Home Cemetery at Grayson. Visitation will be on Tuesday January 15 at the funeral home located at 7131 U S Highway 165, Columbia from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM.
Carolyn Seay Coon was born on January 31, 1938 at Columbia and passed from this life on Monday January 14, 2019 at her residence following an extended illness. She is now resting with those she loved. Carolyn was retired from the Louisiana State Fire Marshalls Office retiring as a deputy in April 1995 after serving twenty six years. She was the first female arson investigator for the state. She continued work with the the Louisiana Penal Systems as a penal and prision inspector, and then as a nursing home, hospital and healthcare inspector for sixteen parishes.
She is preceded in death by her beloved daughter Linda Lofton Duncan, her parents: Wade and Mattie Kilby Seay, by her brothers: Bobby Seay, Ardell Seay and Samuel Seay; her sisters: Doris Seay Taylor and and Martha Elmendorf; her paternal grand parents: Samuel and Martha Jane Howard Seay and her maternal grandparents : Soloman David and Sarah Frances Patton Kilby.
Left to cherish her memory her husband Vernon Ray Coon and her children: Rene Lofton Hatten & husband Samuel, her son: Guy Allen Lofton and wife Bridgett, step daughter: Mildred Coon Hubbard, her grandchildren: Sarah Hatten Guess and husband Tim, Rebecca Perillo and husband Chris, William Hatten and wife Tiffany, Hannah Lofton, Christopher Duncan and wife Ashton, Lauren Duncan and Harrison Duncan; nine great grandchildren and her sister: Verdell Coie ; and her brother Harry Seay; plus many loved cousins, nieces, nephews and friends, who have shared her home for celebrations throughout the years.
Serving as pallbearers will be grandsons and nephews.
