Obituary of Maggie Spillers Strange

Funeral services for Maggie Y. Strange age 79 of Columbia will be held 1:00 PM Wednesday February 27, 2019 from the Columbia chapel of Riser & Son Funeral Home with Rev. Eddie Riley officiatng. Larry Hatten will deliver the eulogy. Interment will follow in the Mt. Pleasant Cemetery Columbia. Visitation will be held on Tuesday February 26, 2019 from 4:00 PM to 9:00 PM at the funeral home.

Maggie Yvonne Spillers Strange was born on September 2, 1939 in Caldwell Parish to the union of Mack Theodore Spillers and Lealer Mae Patton Spillers and passed from this life on February 23, 2019 at the Citizens Medical Center in Columbia. Maggie was an active member of Banks Springs Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents and by her husbands: Robert M. Strange and James Strange; her daughter, Bessie Strange; her son, Andrew Strange, Sr.; her son-in-law, David Knowles; her brothers: Mert Spillers, Little Bob Spillers and Sammy Jack Spillers. Maggie was known for her skills in the kitchen, and one of her most favorite dishes was chicken and dumplings.Maggie loved flowers and gardening and excelled at gardening. Maggie not only raised her own children but opened her heart and helped raise many foster children along the way. She enjoyed her work at the Columbia Developmental Center  and put in about forty years in helping the handicapped. She was responsible for the work study program that was so popular there at the center.

Left to cherish a lifetime of memories are two sons: Preston Strange and A. B. Strange and wife, Cheria; her daughter, Marion Kay Knowles; her daughter-in-law, Brenda Strange; two brothers: Mack Spillers and wife, Paula and Charles Spillers and wife, Norma; her sisters: Sandra Danford, Sue Luther and husband, Charles and Kathy Spillers; her grandchildren: Angela Kelley and husband, Chris, Bobbie Feltner, Melissa Amos and husband, Charlie, Mandy Strange and fiance', Bryan Soto, Matthew Strange and wife, Taylor, Teddy Strange, Shelby Strange and Sidney Rae Strange; her great-grandchildren: Tristen Frederick, Gavin Kelley, Micah Feltner, Sarah Grace Amos, Analise Rose Faust, Tinsley Strange, Ami Strange, Ethan Kelley, Samuel Amos and a host of neices and nephews. She also loved and appreciated her special friends: Martha Shumaker, Ruth Phegley, Margie Fisher and Margie Campbell. Maggie was loved by so many and touched so many innumerable lives along her way.

Grandsons and nephews will serve as pallbearers consisting of Andrew Strange, Jr., Matthew Strange, Bobbie Feltner, Chris Kelley, Tristen Frederick, Dusty Smith, Michael Danford and Larry Hatten. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Carl Cornwell, Charles “Chuckie” Cornwell, Zack Randall, Joe Bailey, Joe Wayne Hall, and Clay Smith.
