So sorry for the loss of your loved one. We remember Carey at Ouachita High School, always a friend to everyone, always there when you needed him. May he Rest In Peace and reunite with his loved ones in Heaven.

I am so very sorry to hear about Carey's death. I worked at the Louisiana School with him and he was always so friendly and positive; he made everyone feel valuable and needed. It was very clear how much he loved the students and I know that for many of them he was one of the people who made all the work they did worthwhile. He will be greatly missed.

Virginia...….So sorry to hear about Carey. Just happened to see the paper tonight and read about him. Haven't seen you in so long and would love to see you. We have lots of good memories growing up at Central Baptist Church. My thoughts and prayers will be with you. Pat

When you work beside someone for this many years, you can grow close. Especially in a field where there is very little positive feedback because everyone wants more and wants it faster and the more you produce- the more you are given and then need is relentless. The only people who really “get” what you do are teenagers who move on to bigger and better things every two to three years. College representatives get it and are on an equally hectic schedule. So other than a handful of people, you are hustling day in day out, never stopping to eat a real lunch and these people “live” with you sometimes more than your families so they become your family. In the later years it can feel like we are working long hours at a fast food joint. But you do it for the students! Carey P. Hendrix is family! He spoiled Marcus and my children, made me laugh with his quick wit, astonished me with his Maguyver-like skills, inspired me with his knowledge of all things Libertarian, helped me celebrate our shared birthdays (a day apart) and celebrate a love of life, and challenges me to be myself and embrace the quirky, kilt-wearing, magical musician, oatmeal aficionado, short-brimmed hat lover in us all! He was instrumental in keeping The LSMSA Counseling Center and eventually The CCC running, was a teammate to Cindy, Leah, and Pam and a friend to all!
As we were headed to say goodbye to my Aunt Wilma yesterday at her funeral, we were processing the circle of life with Nigel Gage and Finnly Talula and had to detour to share this sad news of Carey’s passing. Their take away from a childhood filled with after school visits with Their Mr. Carey, other than candy, unusual music, and being reminded to “help your mama” was celebration! Carey lived life celebrating good jokes, good food, good company, and great ideas!
How am I going to ever vote without thinking about all your help explaining the verbiage? How will I ever have a Mother’s Day without remembering your generous flower deliveries?
And our plans to meet for lunch “once school was out” are not going to happen, which likely the greatest of my “take-aways” stop waiting!!!! If not now, when?
Big Love to you Carey~
