Obituary of John D. Spires, Sr.

John D. Spires, Sr. age 76 of Grayson was born on June 20, 1943 in Ashley County, Arkansas to the union of his parents, D. C. Spires and Lucy Evelyn Brown Spires and he left this life on June 19, 2019 at his residence. John was a loving son, husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and friend. His family was his world and he loved them to the moon and back and many times over. The sacrifices he made for his family all came from the depths of his heart. He was a sheet metal worker by trade and excelled at his art. 

His wife, Nancy Gordy Spires preceded him in death along with his parents and a daughter, Rhonda Cavazos and three siblings: Mary McManus, Nellie Ruth McManus and Betty Jordan. John was a member of the Caldwell Parish Country Club where golfing was a passion. He loved to play Texas Hold Em with his buddies and hunting and fishing was also a passion of his.

Left to celebrate his life and cherish his memory are his son: John D. Spires, Jr. (Mary Ann)  of Clarks, LA; his daughter, Ruth Thomas (Dan) of Grayson and his son-in-law, Manuel Cavazos. He also leaves behind his grandchildren: Megan May, Austin Thomas, Karli Thomas, Clayton Spires, Mason Spires, Logan Spires, Tesha Cavazos (Severan), and Manny Cavazos; great-grandchildren: Raven Spires, Brody Spires, Lydia Girod, Eva Girod and Jasper Ferguson.

The Spires' family will receive visitors on Friday June 21, 2019 at the Riser & Son Funeral Home from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM. The family will honor John's request to be cremated and a memorial service may be held at a later time.
