Obituary of Jimmie Jenkins King
Jimmie Jenkins King, age 87 of Olla, Louisiana passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, July 18, 2019 after a lengthy illness. Jimmie was born November 30, 1931 in Urania, Louisiana to the union of his parents, Samuel DeFrance King and Clara Jenkins King and he was a resident LaSalle Parish all his life. He is remembered fondly by his Olla-Standard High School friends as a member of the 1950 State Championship baseball team when he pitched a no-hitter to cinch the title winning game. After high school he served his country in the U. S. Army as a tank commander traveling throughout Europe. Upon his arrival home from the war he attended Northwestern State University where he played on the baseball team and earned an accounting degree. Jimmie was a hard-worker. He worked for La Salle Parish School Board as the accountant for the school system and also opened his own accounting business in his home in the mid-60's where he was assisted by his wife, Aubin. He loved his community and wanted to make a difference and this propelled him to run for mayor. He served in that position from 1986-1994. He was a member of the American Legion and Kiwanis Club International. He was a life-long member of Pinehill Baptist Church where he also was a deacon. Jimmie loved his community and his family. He is preceded in death by his wife, Aubin Basham King; his parents, Samuel and Clara King and his brothers: Samuel Joseph King and Jackie DeFrance King.
Left to cherish his memory are his children: James William King, Darryl B. King and Janelle King Harlan; his brother, Donald Martin King; his grandchildren: Brianna Harlan Sthram (Rhett) and Lauren Harlan; great-grandchildren: Thomas and Collin Sthram; nephews: Joseph Eric King and Samuel Jason King and great-nephew, Chase King.
