Obituary of Manuel Escalon

Funeral services for Manuel Escalon age 85 of Columbia will be held 2:00 PM Thursday July 25, 2019 from the sanctuary of Fellowship Baptist Church with Rev. Brian Rankin officiating. Bro. Billy Lane McClanahan will deliver the eulogy. Burial with full military honors will follow in the Fellowship Cemetery under direction of Riser & Son Funeral Home of Columbia. Visitation will be at the church on Wednesday July 24 from 4:00 PM until time of service Thursday.


Manuel Escalon was born on July 17, 1934 in Mercedes, Texas to the union of his parents Jose' and Juacinta Escalon and passed from this life on Sunday July 21, 2019 at his favorite place (his home)  at Columbia.Manuel was a loving and caring husband , father, grand-father, great-grandfather, great-great-grandfather, brother and friend. In his lifetime Manuel has always worked in numerous ventures.  He served his country proudly in the United States Air Force from October 1955 to February 1962 when he was honorably discharged medically. He then went to work for the Department of Transportation and Development where he retired after thirty two years. After retiring he went to work with his brother until he and his sweet wife, Carolyn  decided they wanted to come back home.  Manuel decided it was time to go back to work at the Caldwell Parish Correctional Center in Clarks where he retired after fourteen years to be with his wife after an illness. For the last four years  he has served  as the District 5 Police Juror. Manuel's passion was mowing, working in the flower beds or whatever he could do to help anyone. Manuel truly had the heart of a public servant. Manuel was a member of the Fellowship Baptist Church where he served as Deacon. He was preceded in death by his precious wife Carolyn Richmond Escalon, his father and mother: Jose' and Juacinta Escalon, his father-in-law and mother-in-law: Herbert and Bertha Mae Richmond; grand daughter: Destiny Faith Escalon; his brothers and sisters: Jimmy Escalon (Diane), Mary Escalon Glassco (Arnold), Dora Escalon Roberts and Grace “Reese” Escalon Spillers (Bob); his brothers and sisters in law: Milton and Laura Richmond Latapie and Louis Aaron”Rick” Richmond; his niece: Barbara Bearden and his nephews: Bull Spillers and Andy Escalon.


Left to cherish a lifetime of wonderful memories: His four children: Timothy Manuel Escalon (Delores) of Calhoun, Cheryl Escalon Brockner of Columbia, Mark Steven Escalon (Sanchi) of Columbia and his baby girl  Angela Escalon Knight also of Columbia; his ten grandchildren: Timothy Manuel Escalon, II of Pineville; Kori Leigh Escalon of Pineville; Michael Shea Masoner (Anita) of Grayson, Jarrod Lee Masoner (Kristen) of Paincourtwill, LA, James Aaron Faust (Ashley) of Ocala, Florida, John Wesley Brockner of Livingston, Texas; Mark Steven Escalon, II of Texas and Jacob Floyd Escalon “Bo” (Becca) of Columbia; Spencer Matthew Knight (Amber) and Coltin Wade Knight (Alexis) of Columbia; his brothers: Raymond Escalon (Juanita) of Monroe and Johnny Escalon (Carol) of Monroe; his sister-in-law: Sandra Watts Richmond; eighteen great-grandchildren: Natalie, Josh (Katelyn), Justice (Brooke); Donald, Jaden, Mia, Rhea, Gavin, Jace, Jacki, Kenzie,Quinn, Kash, Austynn, Emily, Noah, Asher, Rayleigh and Kyson;two great-great-grandchildren: Elizabeth and Asher; and a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews and friends. To know Manuel truly was to love him.


Serving as pallbearers will be his granddaughter: Kori Escalon, his grandsons: Michael Shea Masoner, Jarrod Lee Masoner, James Aaron Faust, John Wesley Brockner, Mark Steven
Escalon, II, Jacob Floyd Escalon, Spencer  Matthew Knight, and Colton Wade Knight.


Honorary pallbearers will be Timothy Manuel Escalon, II and the Caldwell Parish Police Jury Members.
