Obituary of Maple Tyler Book

Funeral services for Maple Tyler Book will be held at 10:00 AM Friday, August 9, 2019 at Tullos First Baptist Church, 9970 S. Main Street, Tullos, LA with Bro. Scott Smith and Bro. Brian Rankin officiating. Interment will follow at New Union Cemetery, Tullos under the direction of Riser and Son Funeral Home. The family will receive visitors at the church from 5 PM until 9 PM Thursday, August 8.

Maple Marie Tyler Book was born August 21, 1943 in Urania, Louisiana to the union of her parents, Samuel Franklin Tyler, Sr. and Mary Gardner Tyler and she passed from this life on August 7, 2019 at her home in Tullos surrounded by her loving family. Maple attended Northeast Louisiana University where she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Education. She taught school at Central High of Larto before marrying the love of her life, Freddie Dean Book in 1963. They moved to Tullos where she taught at Tullos Elementary and LaSalle Junior High. After 33 years in public school classrooms she moved to the Rod Brady Technical College in Jena and taught there for 12 more years before retiring. Maple also served two terms on the LaSalle Parish School Board. She loved children and spent her life nurturing and challenging students to be the best they could be. Maple attended Tullos First Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School and was an active member. She was an avid reader and she loved the outdoors, camping and hunting. Her grandchildren were her joy and she loved them with all her heart. Maple was preceded in death by her parents, her sisters: Inez Riggs and Ildia Lake and her brother, Sam Tyler, Jr.

Maple is survived by her husband, Freddie Book; son, Bryan Tyler Book; daughter, Stephanie Book Clark and husband, Waymon; brother, Marvin “Boots” Tyler; grandchildren: Anna Clark, Seth Book, Clayton Clark and Andrew Powell; close family friends: Larry and Shanna Powell and Dawn Book.

Serving as pallbearers will be Larry Powell, Clay Clark, Seth Book, Steve Long, Napolean Book, Jr. and Dr. Brian Smith. Honorary pallbearers are Anna Clark, M. W. Fife, Kenneth Emfinger, Buck Borland, Jim Loe and Jerry Harris.
