Carl Binus Duke sometimes referred to as “Bull Goose” was born on January 3, 1938 in his family home in Columbia Heights, Louisiana to the union of his parents, Clifford Carl Duke and Ollie Beverly Gibson Duke and he passed from this life on Thursday, August 8, 2019 at his residence, on his beloved hilltop, following a short illness. Binus was surrounded by his loving family, whom he dearly loved and of whom he was so proud. He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Johnnie Calton IV; his grandson, Tyson James Ybarra; his brother, Jerry K. Duke; his sisters: Tilda L. Duke Calhoun, Melba Jean Duke Nichols (Ben); brothers: Manuel L. Woodruff, (Evelyn), Ray C. Woodruff (Yvonne), Hobart Woodruff (Mary); his sisters: Jewell Woodruff Young (X L), Ella May Woodruff Thornhill Starling (Clayton), Katie Woodruff Hebert (Ray) and Elaine Woodruff Broussard.

Left to cherish a lifetime of memories are his beloved wife of over forty-seven years, Barbara McKeithen Duke of Columbia; his four sons and one daughter of whom he loved deeply: Carl Binus “Bino“ Duke, Jr. (Cassandra) of Baton Rouge, Jody Darren Duke of Elgin, Texas, Arthur F. Calton of Columbia and Shawn Tilden Duke of Columbia; his loving daughter, Dawn Alisa Duke of Columbia; his eleven grandchildren: Greg Ybarra, Hillary Duke Stein (Bobby), Caelan Miller (Calton), Johnnie W. Binus attended Columbia Heights Baptist Church most of his life and he was a Master Mason for fifty-four and one-half years where he served as Lodge Master and he was a member of the York Right Bodies and a member of the Eastern Star. Binus was also a member of the Shriners. Binus also worked for Western Electric for ten years. After returning home from his employment he returned to Caldwell Parish where he built and operated the first convenience store in Caldwell Parish, the U-Roll-It grocery store for almost forty years. He also opened and operated Dukes Sporting Goods World for almost twenty years. He proudly served with the Caldwell Parish Sheriff Department with five years of service. He was the hardest worker you could meet and liked staying busy. He did what an honorable man does to provide for his family, friends and loved ones. Binus loved a good joke and was quick to laugh.

Serving as pallbearers will be his grandsons: Morgan Duke, Caelan Miller, Johnnie Calton, Kade George, Brayden Poole, Peyton Poole, his brother-in-law: Allen McKeithen and cousin: James Duke.
