Charles Boyer Thompson was born on December 16, 1938, in Hebert, Louisiana, to the union of his parents, Charles Hardie Thompson and Dorothy Lee Perot and passed from this life on October 8, 2019.  Charles was a devoted family man who loved hunting, fishing, reading, working crossword puzzles and crypto quotes. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Columbia. One of Charles' greatest joys was teaching, coaching and watching his boys play baseball and football. He always attended every practice and game. When his grandchildren began to participate in sports, dance and scouting, Charles attended every event. The grandchildren often share stories of their Paw Paw pulling them aside at practices, games and in the driveway to give them pointers or to take them on in a game of one-on-one. He taught his boys and grandchildren lessons in every aspect of life, teaching them values, morals and responsibility. He loved his family fiercely, especially his sweet wife "Carolina."

Charles worked hard all his life and began his career in 1957 at Selig Manufacturing Company in Monroe, La. and worked at Mac’s Super Market from 1961-1963.  Charles had a long career in law enforcement beginning in 1963 as Columbia Town Marshal and then on to the La. State Police Academy in 1966.  Charles was the Caldwell Parish resident State Trooper for 25 years. After retiring, he was elected and served as Sheriff of Caldwell Parish from 1996-2000.

Not only was Charles a devoted family man, he was very civic minded and loved Caldwell Parish. He devoted many hours over the years working with the Dixie Youth Program. He served on the Caldwell Parish Library Board, was a long time member of the Caldwell Parish Lion’s Club, having served in several offices and as a Past President. He served on the Caldwell Parish Chamber of Commerce and was a Past President.  Charles also served on the Caldwell Council on Aging Board and was a founding board member of the Francis Morris Memorial Scholarship Board.

He is preceded in death by his parents, his sister Faye T. Rice, his brother Harley Thompson, and his great grand-daughter, Charlotte Vivian Thompson. Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife of 60 years, Carolyn McDonald Thompson, his sons Charles Keith Thompson (Julie), Michael Kevin Thompson (Penny), Kerry Lee Thompson (Paula); his grand-children, Andrew (Annie), Allison T. Lester (Justin), Samantha, Seth, Jacob, Leah and Logan Thompson; his two great grandchildren, Caroline and Beckett Thompson; his niece Heather T. Williams and great-niece Kyra and a host of family and friends.

Pall bearers will be the Louisiana State Police Honor Guard. Honorary pall bearers will be his grandchildren Andrew, Seth, Jacob and Logan Thompson. Other honorary pall bearers include Justin Lester, Sam McDaniel, Clay Bennett, Buster Duplissey, David Crain, Kevin Murphy, Jeff Bailes, Greg Richardson, T.A. Roberts, Charles Meador, William “Hotshot” Hyde, Kenneth Fatheree, Dale Powell and all the deputies who worked for Charles when he was Sheriff from 1996-2000.
