As a child, I was awestruck by my Uncle Charlie. To me, even at such a young age, he was the most handsome cowboy I'd ever seen. One of my most vivid memories was a Summer day when he came galloping on a horse up to Grandma Childress's front porch, bigger than life, jumped down off the horse and tied him to a post, then whipped off his sweaty hat and grinned at me. Uncle Charlie's infectious grin is printed in my mind forever. I only wish I had a photo from back in the day to post, to share that grin with everyone.
He's the end of an era for me. I'll always love and miss my Uncle Charlie and Aunt Cora Lee.
Ronnie, Therion and Jamie, I am so very sorry for your loss. But I know that both Uncle Charlie and Aunt Cora Lee loved the Lord so much, and they are both still very much alive... they've just moved. I'm so glad we'll see them again.

Uncle Charlie was my heart and soul. I have always tried to live my life in a way that would make him and my Daddy proud. They were mine and Alma's role models and heroes. My children loved him as well, He will be dearly missed on this earth.

Ditto to everything Roy McCartney said below about Mr Charlie. Mr. Charlie was a wonderful man, and he was fun to be with on those fishing trips as well as just visiting with him in his home. He was always excited about hunting or fishing every chance he had. And those tales he would tell were absolutely hilarious! He had a hard time telling them for laughing so hard himself! A couple more funny tales he would tell involved the story about putting the hog in the trailer with the horse, and the one about using diving equipment to harvest mussel shells! Mr. Charlie really had some unique life experiences! On a more serious side, one thing I took notice of every time I walked into his house was that his Bible was right there in front of him. His faith was strong, and it's comforting to know that he is not suffering any longer but now is in the presence of his Lord and Savior. Praise God from Whom all blessings flow. Mr. Charlie, you will be greatly missed. ~ Bo Leporati ~

Mr. Charlie was the type of man few people today get the honor of knowing. He was one of a kind. The kind that would stand toe to toe to anyone that crossed him but would give anyone in need the shirt off of his back. He was a man of principals and high morals which are rare traits in today's society. He was passionate about his God and his family, and you dare not speak negatively about either in his presence. He loved to laugh and when you were with him, he was going to find something humorous to talk about before you parted company. For several consecutive years from the mid 1990's to the late 2000's, I was honored to spend a week together with him, his sons, and several other friends at Toledo Bend spending the week fishing. My most favorite part of the day was at meal times when we all sat around and talked. Always, and I mean always, Mr. Charlie would have a story to share but the most memorable was a particular story he told about a particular Ronald McDonald fishing tournament that involved him and 2 of his sons. The best part of the story was trying to understand him tell the story once he started laughing. For more details about this, you must ask Ronnie or Therion. Thanks Mr. Charlie for all the memories and allowing me to be a small part of your life. I will dearly miss you but am glad that you are now with your Savior and your loved ones. Roy McCartney
