For a short time, in 1971, John was my landlord. I had the office above him. He allowed me to borrow his copy machine. He was my insurance agent, and remained my friend for life. I have fond memories of our conversations, and his advice. I shall miss him. Caldwell Parish will miss him, and I know his family does. Please accept my condolence. Know that he will be remembered as one of our best citizens. Don Burns

My memory of John McCants is probably longer than any in Caldwell Parish. I was 9 years old in 1960 when John and Connie moved into the back apartment of Ms Grace Hendrix across the street from us in residential Columbia. Best friends with my mother and dad. Their first child Leslie born a couple years later. Remember his Southeastern Louisiana letterman sweater from his time as a college baseball pitcher there. Always a gentleman, always charming, always in good humor. Had probably the first color TV in town in early 60s. Went over many times to watch Wizard of Oz and Bonanza. The funniest pet rabbit experience ever. What great memories. Glad to have known him and been his friend for 60 years.
