Obituary of Mary Viva Carter
Funeral services for Mary Viva Childress Carter age 90 of Grayson will be held 10:30 AM Saturday July 25, 2020 from the Columbia chapel of Riser & Son Funeral Home with Rev. Shane Duke officiating. Interment will follow in the Old Union Cemetery at Grayson. Visitation will be on Friday July 24, 2020 at the funeral home from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM.
Mary Viva Childress Carter was born on October 4, 1929 at Grayson, LA to the union of her parents James Washington Childress and Eva Idalene Black Childress and she passed from this life on Monday July 20, 2020 at the Louisiana Extended Care Hospital of Natchitoches following a brief illness. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and love of her life, Richard Edwin Carter, and daughter Alma Carter Gros. Ms. Carter was also proceeded in death by six brothers: Clyde Childress, Clayton Childress, Clifton Childress, Wilbur Childress, Aubrey Childress, Curtis Ervin Childress, and by six sisters: Nada Nugent, Cora Lee Wyant, Catherine Whitten, Edna Stamper, Margie Lutrick, and Myrtle Childress.
Mary Viva is survived by her twin sister, Mrs. Frances Fisher of Columbia and her daughter, Celeste Carter Shaeffer of Natchitoches. She is also survived by her grandchildren: Robert B. Greer III, Murray Joseph "Trey" Gros III, Joshua Talon Shaeffer, Richard Jeffrey Shaeffer, Jeneen Shaeffer Salley, Vera Brooks Day, Shelia Brooks Sepulvado, Robert Otis “Trey” Hutson, great-grandchildren: Marcus Sutherlin, Cameron Raila, Gavin Raila, Alexis Sepulvado, Nicholas Sepulvado, Cassie Day, Heather Day, Jayme Day, Declan Hutson, Caden Hutson, Maddie Grace Shaeffer, and due in October Lucas James Gros. Other survivors include a host of nieces and nephews and other family members..
Mrs Carter graduated from Grayson High School. She worked for numerous years as a cook at several schools for the Natchitoches Parish School System, and for the Natchitoches Meat Pie Plant. She eventually worked at and retired from the Dietary Department at the Natchitoches Parish Hospital. She loved to cook for her family and her biscuits were always a hit. She was a Christian and taught her family to Love the Lord fiercely and pray daily.
