Obituary of William Edward Thompson

William Edward Thompson was born on January 12, 1936 in Copenhagen, Louisiana to the union of Jessie and Annie Mae Thompson. He passed from this life, surrounded by loved ones on December 5, 2020 at Baton Rouge General Hospital. He was preceded in death by his brother, James Oglethorpe. Left to cherish a lifetime of memories are his wife and love of his life, Kathy Thompson, daughters Barbara Thompson, West Monroe, Louisiana, Tina Johnson, Church Point, Louisiana, step-daughter Michelle Youngstead (Ken), Franklin, Tennessee, son Glen Thompson, Texas, step-son Christopher Caldwell, Church Point, Louisiana. Sister Mary Toney (Ken), Blanchard, Louisiana. Grandson Matt Thompson (Kristy), granddaughter Mindy Hart (Paul). Grandchildren, who affectionately called him Papaw Boat, Emmy, Amber, Hope, Trey, Mary Beth, Nicholas, Hunter, and Klowie. There was a very special relationship with his 17 great-grandchildren: Ethan, Preston, Tristan, Mason, Liam, Kylee, Zoey, Bentley, Noahleigh, Leilani, Adlee, Aydan, Gage, Brinlee, Brailen, Karson Lane and Lyra Jane, many who continued to call him Papaw Boat. William was an avid hunter, mule rider and loved the outdoors. His greatest joy was to be surrounded by friends and family, most of the time he was the center of attention, because no one could get a word in edge-wise. He was a people person, a man's man, a super husband, a great Dad and a Papaw who didn't mind getting on the floor and playing with the kids. He was truly loved and greatly missed by all who knew him. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 Monday, December 7, 2020 at Riser and Son Funeral Home in Columbia.
