Obituary of Floyce Roberts Childress

Floyce Roberts Childress, born January 13, 1920, passed away on Wednesday, February 20, 2013 at the Haven Nursing Home in Columbia, Louisiana. Floyce was a member of Grayson Baptist Church, but has spent 8 of the last ten years as a resident of Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Floyce graduated from Kelly High School in 1937 and was married to Melvis Childress in 1941. She spent her early years taking care of her children and eventually became a cosmetologist. After retiring as a hairdresser, Floyce became interested in art, crafts, and sewing. She assisted Melvis in their restaurant, Maplehill Smokehouse, in Kelly, Louisiana and also worked in her craft, sewing and art shop, The Gingerbread Junction, next door. She was known locally for her chocolate pies, piled high with meringue. Floyce was preceded in death by: Melvis Childress, her husband; parents, John Nelson and Minnie Newsom Roberts; sister, Audie Mayes; brothers, Doyle, Claude, Laverne and Orval Roberts; grandchildren, Duncan Childress and Mike Davis. Survived by children: Pat Minard and husband Larry of West Monroe: Virginia Gough and husband Ronnie of Baton Rouge; Linda Davis of Baton Rouge; Doyle Childress and wife Lee of Las Vegas, Nevada; JoAn Childress of Kelly, and Tony Childress and his wife Dianne of Kelly. Sisters-in-law: Nita Roberts and Betty Girod Roberts. Grandchildren: Randy Minard, Jay Minard, both of Kelly; Brian Gough and wife Kristie of Destrehan, LA; Lisa Webb and husband Steve of Mt. Pleasant, TX; Lindsey Davis and husband Grady of Stillwater, OK; Jamie Davis and Brenda of Pittsburg, TX; Lee Adkins and wife Jan of Kelly. LA; Bob Adkins of Columbia, LA; Kristin Kenworthy and husband Sloan of Columbia, LA. Great Grandchildren: Dolph Minard, Brent Gough, Bryce Gough, Kandis Segari, Kayla Segari, Johnathon Segari, Nemen Wilson, Chesney Davis, Landry Davis, and Trevor Stewart. Great Grandchildren: Laykin Wilson and Kinley Wilson. Services will be at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, February 23, 2013 at Riser Funeral Home Chapel in Columbia, Louisiana with Bro. Jack McKeithen and Bro. Russell McClary officiating. Visitation will be Friday from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Roberts' Cemetery in Kelly, Louisiana. Pallbearers: Randy Minard, Jay Minard, Brian Gough, Jamie Davis, Bob Adkins, Lee Adkins Honorary Pallbearers: Grady Davis, Sloan Kenworthy, Dolph Minard.
